Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities concluded he posed a concrete flight risk while under domestic detention.

The one-time leader was found guilty of planning a government overthrow in the ninth month and handed more than a 27-year term in incarceration, but he continued under confinement pending court reviews.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice the presiding justice said the action to imprison the 70-year-old politician was a safety action after "new facts" came to light.

This involved trying to remove his ankle monitor and a call for a supporters' gathering that could facilitate a chance to flee".

Court Filing Details Escape Concerns

In a filing authorising the arrest, the judge said information from the unit overseeing his home detention suggested the ex-president's "intention to break the surveillance device to secure accomplishment in his getaway".

This, it said, would be made easier by the chaos caused by the protest called by his child.

His offspring, his son Flávio, who holds office as a senator, called for a meeting of his backers near his father's house to take place on Saturday night.

The senator wrote on online platforms on the previous day: Do you plan to struggle for your country, or observe everything from your smartphone there on your sofa? I invite you to struggle with us."

He said the gathering would be so supporters could offer prayers for his physical condition and for the restoration of democratic rule in our country."

Diplomatic Refuge Fears

Part of the magistrate's ruling was the possibility of the former president's transfer to foreign missions near the home, considering that the probes revealed a background of arranging to seek refuge through a embassy office", a statement said.

They also petitioned that he be permitted to depart his residence for healthcare, saying he required regular treatment for respiratory ailments and other ailments.

Context of Sentencing

The former president was determined responsible of leading a scheme aimed at maintaining his control after he was defeated in the 2022 election to his left-wing rival, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Supreme Court justices said that he had knowledge of a scheme which involved plans to murder the current president and his vice-presidential running mate, Geraldo Alckmin, and to arrest and execute Justice Moraes - the High Court judge who has been overseeing his judicial proceedings.

The conspiracy was stopped because it didn't receive the backing of the army and air force commanders. Lula was sworn in without issue on 1 January 2023.
